Robinson Seismic technology

Bringing proven seismic technology to Bangladesh

Based in Hamilton, New Zealand, Robinson Seismic was founded by seismic-isolation pioneer Dr. Bill Robinson. Its work focuses on reducing earthquake movement transmitted into buildings and infrastructure.

Robinson’s Lead Rubber Bearing technology has been used in more than 8,000 structures worldwide, including hospitals, buildings and infrastructure in earthquake-prone regions.

What it is

What is a seismic bearing pad?

A flexible connection at the base

A seismic bearing pad sits between a building’s foundation and its main structure. It is engineered to limit how much ground movement passes directly into the building.

Controlled movement during shaking

Earthquakes can move the ground suddenly from side to side. The bearing allows controlled movement at the base and helps absorb and dissipate part of that energy.

A shock absorber for the building

Like a car’s suspension on a rough road, seismic bearings help soften the shaking experienced by the structure, reducing lateral forces and structural stress.

How it protects the building

Less force reaches the structure

Instead of transferring the full ground movement directly into the building, the isolation system permits controlled movement between the foundation and the structure. This helps reduce seismic forces and improve resilience during strong earthquakes.

For major earthquakes—including events around magnitude 8—safety still depends on the building design, soil conditions, distance from the source and the level of ground shaking. Seismic isolation provides an additional layer of protection; magnitude alone does not determine a building’s performance.

Built with protection in mind

Protection starts from the foundation

A safer home goes beyond premium design. It also considers how a building is prepared for unexpected events.

Through advanced seismic bearing technology, Unicorn Properties Ltd. is working toward homes that offer greater safety, resilience and long-term peace of mind.
